Успех на дистанции забега требует высокого уровня самоотдачи, часто вплоть до навязчивого состояния. В основном, чем больше миль вы пробегаете, тем лучшим бегуном вы станете. Многие бегуны подтверждают эту навязчивую идею при помощи еженедельного большого объема, полагая, что это придает им супер-возможность бегать на высоком уровне. Ключом к преодолению этого страха является поиск программы тейперинга, соответствующей аэробным потребностям, и осознание того, что бегуны не теряют месяцы напряженной работы, немного сбавляя нагрузку в течение последних двух недель перед соревнованиями [29,30,31].
